Our First Father’s Day With the Bump 🤍
September 06, 2026

There’s something a little strange about celebrating Father’s Day when our baby is still tucked away in my belly.

Technically, Tenison hasn’t changed a nappy yet. He hasn’t been woken up at 2am by a crying baby, packed a nappy bag, wrestled a tiny human into a onesie or had to figure out what on earth a newborn wants when apparently nothing is working.

But watching him over these last few months has made me realise that becoming a dad doesn't start the day your baby is born.

In so many little ways, he's already one.

This year is our first Father’s Day with our little passenger along for the ride, and although they aren't quite here to celebrate their Dad themselves yet, I thought I'd do it for them. 🤍

Watching You Become a Dad

Watching the excitement on Tenison's face whenever he talks about our baby honestly melts my heart. Every morning he says hello to bub through my belly, and at the end of the day he'll come home and tell them about his day. Our baby isn't even here yet and somehow they've already become this little person in our lives who gets greeted in the morning and filled in on everything they've missed by bedtime.

There hasn't been a single day since meeting Tenison where I've doubted that he would be the most amazing dad. Long before we were married, long before there was a little baby growing in my belly, I knew that if we ever got to this point, our children would be incredibly lucky to have him.

I won't go into too much detail because it isn't my story to tell, but Tenison lost his dad when he was a teenager. It's something I think about now that we're becoming parents ourselves. Tenison knows what it feels like to be loved immensely by his dad growing up, and he also knows what it's like to have to live without him far earlier than anyone should.

I think there's something really special about knowing that the kind of love his dad gave him will now continue into another generation. Our baby won't get the chance to meet their Pop, but they'll get to experience some of that same love through their Dad. And knowing Tenison, I have absolutely no doubt that this little baby is going to be loved more than anything in this world.

Our Very First Father’s Day

Our first Father's Day wasn't anything extravagant, and honestly, I don't think I'd have wanted it to be.

I made Tenison breakfast and a coffee in the morning, and we spent a little while just lying in bed together before getting ourselves organised for the day. We caught up with his mum and nan for lunch, and then, in perhaps the most Tenison way we could possibly finish his first Father's Day... we went looking for a pig. 😂

We didn't find one.

So there were no elaborate plans, no fancy celebrations and definitely no dramatic Father's Day story to tell. It was just breakfast, coffee, family, a bit of time together and an unsuccessful pig hunt.

Nothing spectacular.

But very, very Tenison.

And maybe that's what I love most about it. This time next year, Father's Day is going to look completely different. There'll be a little person here who might interrupt breakfast, probably won't care that Dad wants a sleep-in and definitely won't understand why it's supposed to be his special day. 😂

This year, though, it was just the three of us — Mum, Dad and the little bump quietly tagging along for Dad's very first Father's Day.

And I wouldn't have changed a thing. 🤍

To the Dad You Already Are

Our baby might not be here yet, but I already get little glimpses of the dad you're going to be every single day.

I see it when you say hello to my belly in the morning. I see it when you tell bub about your day. I see it in the excitement on your face when we talk about the future and in the way you've already made room in your life for this tiny person you've never even met.

One day I'll get to watch you hold our baby for the first time, and I honestly don't know how I'm going to keep myself together when that moment comes.

But until then, I get to watch you become their Dad a little more every day.

Happy first Father's Day, Tenison.

Bub and I already think you're pretty bloody special. 🤍
