Finding out about our Mini

Finding out about our Mini
July 08, 2026

There was no missed period. No weird symptoms. No sudden “I just know I'm pregnant” feeling. Honestly, I had absolutely no reason to think I was pregnant.

It was 12 days after our wedding, and I'd gone to work like any other day. The night before, I'd had a dream that we had a baby — but if you know me, you know that really wasn't anything unusual. I have ridiculously vivid dreams every single night, so I woke up and thought absolutely nothing of it.

Then, sometime during the day, this completely random thought popped into my head: How crazy would it be if I was pregnant? Not because I felt pregnant. Not because anything was different. More like... How crazy would it be to say we're having a wedding baby? And then I immediately thought, Nah. There's no way. So I carried on with my day.

After work, my mother-in-law and best friend asked if I wanted to meet them at the pub for a drink. We caught up for a few hours, I went home, and that random little thought from earlier must have still been sitting somewhere in the back of my mind because, for absolutely no particular reason, I decided: Eh, I'll just do a test.

This actually wasn't unusual for me. After having my IUD removed in November, I'd gotten into the habit of doing pregnancy tests every now and then — mostly because I was terrified of unknowingly being pregnant while still having the occasional drink.

So, there I was. Sitting on the toilet. Peed on the stick. And then... I bloody dropped it in the toilet. Of course I did.

I pulled it out, looked down... Positive. Two lines. Very, very clearly positive. And my immediate reaction? No way. That's definitely positive because I just dropped it in the toilet bowl. Because obviously THAT was the logical explanation.

So I grabbed another test. Positive. Okay... Surely not. Out came the digital. And there it was. Pregnant.

Holy shit. I was pregnant. And I was BEYOND stoked.

Now I Had to Tell Tenison...

Tenison wasn't home yet, which meant I somehow had to sit there with this enormous secret and wait for him to walk through the door. Thankfully, I already knew exactly how I wanted to tell him.

Long before this moment, I'd bought a little plaque that said: “Hi Daddy, I'm so excited to meet you.”

Our original plan had actually looked quite different. I'd had my IUD removed in November because we planned to start trying for a baby, and at the time, our wedding wasn't supposed to be until May 2027.

But life had other plans.

We lost a baby — a story I'll share another day — and afterwards, something shifted for us. We thought maybe it was our sign to get married first. So we moved our wedding forward by an entire year.

And now, just 12 days after that wedding, I was standing in our bedroom holding a positive pregnancy test.

I placed the test beside Tenison's side of the bed with the little Hi Daddy plaque, set up my camera and waited. Eventually, he came home. I gave him a kiss and, trying to act completely normal, said: “Go and look at what Veah has done next to your bed.”

Poor Veah!

So off he went into the bedroom, probably expecting to find that our dog had destroyed something... Instead, he found out he was going to be a dad. And he was beyond excited.

Just like that, less than two weeks after becoming husband and wife, the next chapter of our lives had begun. Mummy and Daddy.

But Then It Got Even Crazier...

The next morning, I was absolutely ITCHING to tell somebody. There was no way I was keeping this entirely to myself.

But I also knew it was still incredibly early, and I didn't want to tell anyone too close to my mum or Tenison's mum yet. So I called one of my best friends, Claire.

I said: “Claire, I have to tell you something.”

Immediately she was like: “What?!”

And I finally said it out loud. “I found out last night that I'm pregnant.”

There was a pause. And then she said: “I found out last night I'm pregnant too!”

EXCUSE ME?!

Of all the responses I was expecting, that was absolutely not one of them.

For probably the last year, Claire and I had joked about and manifested being pregnant together. Neither of us was really actively planning for it to happen at exactly the same time, but we'd talked about it so many times. Imagine if we were pregnant together. Imagine if our babies were the same age.

We said it... But I don't think either of us actually expected it to happen. And we definitely didn't expect our due dates to be... THREE DAYS APART.

Three bloody days.

We'd found out we were pregnant on the same night, without either of us knowing about the other.

Sometimes life has a funny way of lining things up. A baby dream. A random thought at work. A pregnancy test dropped directly into the toilet.  A little Hi Daddy plaque waiting beside the bed. And a phone call the next morning that somehow made the whole thing even more surreal.

Twelve days earlier, we'd stood together as husband and wife. Now we were going to be Mum and Dad.

Our little mini was on the way. 🤍

And we had absolutely no idea just how much our lives were about to change.
